Athena 17s GJNC Reflection
When it comes to USAV Nationals, nothing quite compares to it. The atmosphere that surrounds the convention center is electrifying, and teammates come together to play arguably their best volleyball of the season. This year, Athena 17-Gold was fortunate the recieve the CEVA Nationals bid and compete amongst competition all across the United States; all in the heart of Detroit, Michigan. What made this experience extra special for our team this year, was the opportunity we had to extend our season an extra month after Emerald City, and really solidify our volleyball skills as individuals and as a team.
When it came down to performance, our team came out and executed some very solid volleyball. Our goal coming into this tournament was to finish in the top half of our division. With lots of hard work and perseverance, we were able to secure the second seed out of a 8 team pool, and accomplish our goal. On the third day, we played a crossover match that would determine if we would finish in the gold bracket. Although we lost our crossover match, everyone remained positive and carried that momentum into our last day.
Overall GJNC was an extremely positive experience this year for Athena 17-Gold. We got to represent the CEVA region, and come together as a team one last time. My favorite part about nationals this year was the opportunity I had to create some amazing memories with my wonderful teammates and coaches. There really is nothing like playing volleyball and being surrounded by people that all love and care for each other.
