NPJ 16-1 Gold at USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships
The 2016 USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship was held at the Indianapolis Convention Center this past June/July, next door to the Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Colts Football Team. It was exciting for my 16’s NPJ National Team to play in the USA Division this year. Indianapolis is a clean town that has a lot of fun activities to offer. My team was able to enjoy some of the best activities Indianapolis has; the Indianapolis ZOO with a great Dolphin show and an amazing Orangutan Exhibit, a Gondola ride through the Central Canal in downtown Indianapolis, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Brickyard & Museum.
When not exploring Indianapolis, we were hard at work competing and representing ourselves, volleyball club, and CEVA at Nationals. We played teams from Ohio, Texas, Florida, California, Arizona, and North Carolina. All the teams in the USA Division seemed evenly matched, most matches going to three games with close finishes. We won some matches we should have lost, and lost some matches we should have won. To say the least, the competition was tough! Competing at Nationals is an experience that all volleyball players should strive for every season. It’s not only a huge compliment to earn the invite to attend, but it’s a great honor to represent yourself, volleyball club, and CEVA in such a prestigious environment of athletes. There were hundreds of college coaches and fans watching, which was exhilarating and nerve-racking at the same time. It was exciting to see so much support for the sport I love!
My team ended the season by finishing the tournament 6-4, and winning the Bronze Division. Playing on a drama free team, win or lose, we always walked away with a smile on our face… except for the final match, I was sad to see the season end, my favorite so far, with an amazing coach who is passionate about the sport and a group of great teammates who always support each other, some whom I’m thankful to call my best friends! Nationals in Indianapolis will be an experience I’ll always treasure!
