Hello, my name is Tyra Schaub. I play for Excel NW 14-1 Rox.
This year was my third year attending the Girls Junior National Championships in my club volleyball career. My team attended the CEVA bid qualifier in February, and we had made our way to the championship game against MAC 14-1 black. We battled our way hard and we won the national bid. MAC had received the american bid. We prepared for our journey to Detroit, Michigan by traveling to Salt Lake City, Denver, and Spokane to try and get the open bid but we did not get it. At each of these tournaments we finished in the top tier so our hopes going into nationals were high.
Once the schedules for the first day of pool play came out I was ecstatic. I had the mindset that this team, a team from small Vancouver would be playing teams from all over the country including Puerto Rico. We were in a six team pool. The first day we played three games and two the next. The first day we won two and lost a very close third game that went to three games. The next day we won two. Next, came the deciding day . We lost our first match and battled
back to win the second match. Now we have secured a spot in gold or silver depending on our crossover that evening. We unfortunately lost the crossover match and landed in the silver bracket level.
I personally needed the laughter with teammates getting stuck on the people mover to get me over that disappointing moment. I awoke early ready to go and my teammates and I played hard but lost in three and finished nationals tied for 13th in the national level.
I love the experience of going to see the best of the best at every age level compete and show me what I as an athlete need to do to get to that next level and to help better my team.
I am proud of all my teammates and how we all love each other and work together as a team. I
am proud to step on the court with all of them to represent Excel NW.
Players I had the privilege to play with at Nationals this year are : Corin , myself, Rylie, Emmy, Morgan,Lauren, Kylie, Danielle, Renee, Emily and we were coached by Coach Kelly and Coach Brynn Way to Rox it ladies!
