Sister-Sister: Featured Athlete Bios from OJVA and Athena Sisters

Meet Zoe

Name: Zoe Nguyen
Age: 15
School: St. Mary's Academy
Club: Athena 16-Black

What is the best part about having a sister that is as involved in the same sport as you?

The best part about having a sister that plays teh same sport as me is definitely the advice and support that we give each other because of our similar experiences.

What is the most frustrating part about having a sister as involved in the same sport as you?

The most frustrating part about playing the same sport as my sister is the competitiveness that sparks between us as siblings and as players.

Why did you pick the club that you play for for?

I picked Athena because of how welcoming everyone was when the season started and the aspect of training players to be the best they can be on and off of the court.

What are your favorite things to do outside of volleyball?

My favorite things to do outside of volleyball include track and field, leadership at my school, and traveling.

What has been the best part of your club experience?

The best part of my club experience was finding lifelong friends through a sport that we all love.

What is the coolest place that you have visited?

The coolest place I have visited is definitely Kauai, Hawai'i.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

My biggest accomplishment was playing at the varsity level in high school, this was a big achievement for me because I didn't
know anyone before tryouts and playing at this level was beneficial for my growth on and off the court.

What is the best advice that you have been given?

The best advice I've been given was actually from the Colin Kaepernick Nike ad and it is "Believe in something. Even if it
means sacrificing everything."

What are your life goals?

My life goals include going to college, helping my family out as much as they have helped me, and being successful in my own
eyes.

If you could make one rule that everyone has to follow, what would it be?

If I could make one rule that everyone had to follow, it would be to respect others unconditionally, no matter their race, gender,
age, and religion.

What is a random fact about yourself?

A random fact about me is that I was born in Texas.

Name: Adrienne Nguyen

Age: 12

School: Holy Trinity Catholic School

Club: OJVA

What is the best part about having a sister that is as involved in the same sport as you?

We can always practice together and help each other out on things based on volleyball.

What is the most frustrating part about having a sister as involved in the same sport as you?

We are always very competitive against each other, but it pushes us to be better.

Why did you pick the club that you play for?

I went to the open gym and really enjoyed it, and it seemed like an instant click.

What are your favorite things to do outside of volleyball?

I like to write calligraphy, play the piano, and go to the beach.

What has been the best part of your club volleyball experience?

Meeting new people and making friendships that will last.

What are your life goals?

I want to make an impact to the world.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Seaside 2018 12u 2nd place and Akamai beach tour 2nd place.

Best advice you've been given?

"Even if you have talent, if you do not better yourself, you will fall behind"

What is the coolest place you have visited?

I went to Oahu, Hawaii over Christmas break and it was a very beautiful and welcoming place.

Who inspires you to be better and why?

My parents really inspire me, because they believe in my dreams and allow me to have opportunities to better myself.

If you could make one rule that everyone had to follow, what rule would you make?
