Changes Coming to 12s Power Leagues
BEAVERTON, OR (8/20/2025) – The CEVA Junior Girls’ Committee and the CEVA Board of Directors have approved several changes to the formatting for 12s Power League, effective for the 2025-2026 girls’ Power League season.
The changes include formatting and divisional structure changes for both the Power League Qualifier and regular Power Leagues. The 12s division plays one Qualifier and three subsequent Power League tournaments during the season. The changes are summarized below and will be part of the new Junior Girls’ Handbook for the 2025-2026 season.
12s Power League Qualifier (January 10) – See an example of this format here
- Teams will be split into divisions of 32 – previously they were split into divisions of 24.
- Teams will play in pools of 4 and will play one crossover in the afternoon (this is not a change)
- Crossovers will have 1st seeds from pools playing 2nd seeds from another pool, and 3rd seeds playing 4th seeds.
12s Power Leagues (January 24, March 7, April 12) – See an example of this format here
- Teams will be split into flights of 8 – not flights of 6.
- Teams will play a standard 4-team pool play schedule – previously they played 3-team pools.
- Teams will play one crossover match in the afternoon – like pool finishers play each other (e.g., the two pool winners play each other in a crossover, the two 2nd place teams play each other, etc.). Previously, teams played a 6-team bracket and could play as many as 3 afternoon matches.
- The top three teams in each flight move up to the next-highest flight following each Power League, and the bottom three teams in each flight move down. Previously, the top two teams moved up, and the bottom two teams moved down.
Note – the Power League changes make the 12s substantially align with the format in the other age divisions.
Step-In Rule
- In the Power League Qualifier, the step-in rule would be in play for all teams & all divisions (this is not a change).
- In Power Leagues, the step-in rule would not apply in Flights 1 & 2 – previously it did not apply to Flights 1, 2, and 3. This means teams in Flights 1 & 2 may not step in to serve.
Regionals Format
- The format for 12s in Regionals will not change.
